Research

My research revolves around the bodily expression of emotion and the study of non-verbal communication in groups. I consider music ensemble performance as a test-case as it provides a large range of expertises (from absolute beginner to renown expert) and force the research to deal with situation of interaction that offer various levels of complexity : from rather basic alignement (moving altogether at the same pace) or highly complex (consider the fine-tune movement and shift coordination of violinists in a string quartet).

Lessons on Fire. Develop new type of training and understanding of team coordination in extreme situations.

The GEO-SAFE project, aims at creating a network enabling the two regions to exchange knowledge, ideas and experience, thus boosting the progress of wildfires knowledge and the related development of innovative methods for dealing efficiently with such fires. More precisely, the GEO-SAFE project will focus on developing the tools enabling to set up an integrated decision support system optimizing the resources during the response phase.

Neuroscientific Study of Body Expressivity (Body Movement and Predictive Coding).

Considering the test-case of music performance, we aim at understanding how body expressivity is encoded and decoded by the brain. We compare expert (violinist) versus non-expert participants. We also investigate other behavioural markers to study predictive coding strategies applied to the perception of emotional body movement through eyes-tracking systems.

Emotional Body Expression and PeriPersonal Space (PPS).

Starting with the test-case of professional dancers interpreting a choreography with various emotional nuances (eg., angry, joyful), we investigate how body emotional expression may depend on the available space surrounding the person (Peripersonal Space or Kinesphere).
